I am buying a house that the previous owner put ceramic tile in the living/hall/bath with bad carpet in the bedrooms. I am leaving the tile in the baths but want new carpet in the bedrooms/hall/livingroom.

Is there a way to do this without tearing out the tile? I am worried about the way it will look and wear with the difference in floor height in the doorways (the carpet will be on cement floor in bedroom and run up on the tile in the hallway)

Do I just lay a subfloor in the bedrooms the same height as the tile? Use double pad in the bedrooms and single over the tile?

thanks

Why not float it with Ardex. Do an internet search for "Ardex"

What about the grout lines being felt under the pad? You may end up floating the C-tile flat. You will need to glue the tackstrip on the tile of hammer drill and molly the tackstrip.
