Hello - we just bought a 30 year old house in southern California. The last owners botched a shower leak repair and we've had to tear the whole thing out - including the shower pan. Since the pan was an awkward size (54x34) and has to be special ordered, we thought we'd bypass the process by simply continuing the new wall tile down across the floor. We were going to add a bench on one end (frame made out of wood and then tiled over) and use a 4x4 as a threshold. The base floor is cement and is directly over the foundation. Can we just lay the tile down? What do we need to prep the area?
