I'm tiling my upstairs bathroom floor (wood subfloor). Is 1/2" cement board good or should I go thicker? The subfloor is brand new, excellent condition. Also, do I need any waterproofing membrane on top of the backer board since this is not a shower floor, just a bathroom with a tub. I intend to use silicon caulking for the entire perimeter. The tile is very glossy ceramic, and I will thoroughly seal the grout joints. Thanks for your always prompt and helful responses. Hoss

Hi Hoss,
1/2 in. is as thick as it comes, so that will be fine. I don't think you need waterproofing, but make sure you follow instructions for installing the backer. Sounds like you are on your way.
