I just layed ceramic tile in the entryway where carpet used to lay. How do I mount the carpet at the tile edge where I cut the carpet out of the entryway? The carpet and tile will lay at about the same height. Do I nail a carpet strip down and that's it? Or do I need to glue the edge next to the tile? Thanks!

Hi Linda,
Nail the carpet strip about 1/4 in. away from the tile edge. Cut the carpet about 1/8 in. beyond the tile edge. Pull the carpet snug and tuck it in with an old screwdriver or a butter knife. You'll have to push down quite hard to get it all the way in.

Hi John. Thanks for the reply. So the 1/8th of an inch overlapping just gets pushed down into the 1/4 inch gap between the tile and strip? Could I possible glue it down? It is in a rental of mine and it worries me a little.
Thanks

Hi Linda,
I think glue would just make a mess. Just pull the carpet taught over the strip and push the material down as far as you can into the gap. It'll stay there until you want to remove it.
One more thing. After you are satisfied with the job, gently tap the tacks with a hammer. Bend them over a little so they won't prick bare feet (ouch!)
