I would like to prune a maple on my front yard but I am worried about causing too much stress on the tree. The tree is about 20 ft. high with a trunk about 20 inches in diameter. 30 inches up from the gound the tree seperates into 3 shoots. The main trunk goes to 12inches around while the two off shoots are a little smaller at around 10 inches. I would like to prune these two off shoots because they all 'converge' at the crown. Also they come off the main trunk in a v-shaped union which my weaken as the tree gets bigger. So basically would trimming off about 15 ft. off each side be too much. thanks for your input.
