Thanks for the forum. I have 2 questions, would polymer modified thinset be sufficient for a stucco wall with glossy paint If I rough up the wall with a coarse rubbing stone? I don't think I need a backerboard because the space is only 12" in height.(between kitchen cabinets and countertop)I'm installing typical glazed ceramic wall tile.
Also,Is there a grout for this 1/4" non sanded joint that does not require a sealant,if not what would be a good sealer for this job? Thanks

Hey Hoss,
Yes, thinset will work for that area if you rough it up. You should use sanded grout, if your joint is going to be 1/8" or larger not unsanded. Unsanded is for small grout joints up to 1/8". Sorry, but there is no grout that I know of that does not need to be sealed (you should seal it)
