We are looking to replace the lock on the front door on our new house. The previous owner made the hole in the door a little too big for the lock. Even his didn't fit exactly right. Is there any device or something we can do to get the lock to fit right without having to replace the entire door?

Go into any big box store and in their lockset section you will find brass wrap around plates. Select the one you need. They install very easily and work just fine.

Lefty is correct but those plates are pretty ugly. Another thought is to go to a builders hardware supplier and look into decorative escutcheon plates to go behind the lock. They will cover the oversized hole and be more attractive.
