It appears that my furnance went out last night. I had the thermostat set at 72 degrees and notice that when I woke up no heat was coming out of the vents and the temp of the house was at 55 degrees. I looked at the furnance and there appears to be a red light on inside the unit. What do you think the problem may be.

fan and see if blower comes on.Check circuit breakers.Turn power off, remove panel.Instructions may state what red light is for.It could be just a indicator that shows power is avaible.I'll be home all day, have been snowed in,16" and counting. If I have been some help please forward me two airline tickets to Southern Florida....BRRRRR!!!!PDF

When I turned the circuit breaker off and on the heat came on and the red light went off. What do you think the problem was/is. Does this mean I need to get ready to buy a new furnance. This furnance is 7 years old. Thanks for your help. Seems like you got the snow we was suppose to get. I live in the Washington, DC area.

Your filter is clean. If belt driven, make sure belt is in good shape.Red light might have been a high temp limit.PDF

I had the same problem that you are discribing with my York Diamond 80. I paid someone $250 to come out and put in a new control board. This did not help me at all. I have LP Gas heat and took the Ignitor and bent it toward the gas coming into the system. Since then I have not had any problems at all.
The flashing red light is an indicator to the service person (It is a self diagnostic system on the control board).
Hope you have good luck with the system.

How old was your York unit when you had your mother board replaced. It must be a defect in the York system. As I mention my unit is 7 years old. Furthermore, I also had my board replaced by Sears about 3 years ago. It took them a while to figure out why the heating system would not work. At the time, I did not have to pay for this repair because it was covered under a maintenance plan. However, they refused to cover it past 2000 because they said it was too old. I heard alot of people complaining about the York system going bad after a year.

My house was built in 1995. I bought the house in 2000. The board would be at most 5 years old.
I also wanted to know whether you have a gas or electric system. I misread your first post and my post may not have helped you (Bending the Ignitor toward the gas values).

I believe my York system is electric. My house was built in 1994. And I've heard alot of my neighbors complain about the same board problem so it seems like the Yorks are no good.
