I am having a problem with molly bolts. I put one in and it slides halfway out (no farther) instead of being stuck flush to the wall. When I put up my shelf, I certainly dont want it to slide away from the wall!
I got 1/8", long size(for med. duty, it says).
Perhaps my plaster is thinner than for use with this bolt. But isnt plaster thickness standardized?
Please help
Thanks alot

Hello,
I'm just guessing here, but if you have the "butterfly" style of molly bolts, you will need to pull out on it gently and tighten the bolt. I'm not sure if this helps or not.

Some of those bolts are plastic. Some are metal. The metal ones I have used come in a great many different sizes. the ones I used recently, were made to use on the thickness of the dry wall. I drilled a hole in the wall large enough to get the bolt in but snug, I inserted the bolt hammered it in. Not too hard. Then with a regular screw driver I screwed the screw until it was tight. This causes the metal behind the wall to spread out and come up tight to the other side of the dry wall or sheetrock. Then unscrew the screw place you shelf in place and put the screw in and tighten it up. I tried to use my electric screwdriver to put the molly bolt in and I made a mess. I did it by hand.
I hope this helps.
