We bought a 23 year old house in a semi-remote part of Alaska. The original owner/builder put up 1x6 rough white spruce boards as wall and ceiling covering on the interior. When he installed them they were unseasoned and subsequently shrank leaving gaps in between. I would like suggestions on how to fix this...i.e. could I sand (finish) them in place and fill the gaps with something (if so, what?)?...could I remove them and finish them then put them back up? We actually like the look but we are constantly getting splinters when we brush against the walls. All suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.
