Do NOT leave the manual fill valve open all the time.

Do you have an expansion tank? Do you have a pressure guage on the side of the boiler, if so, what is the pressure reading?

Benny,

My pressure runs 13 to 15 lbs and temperature averages 170. You may have a little too much water in system. Check the expansion tank to see how full it is (tap on it to see if you can find the water level).

You may need to drain a little water out of system, but as long as relief valve works, you should be ok.

Whether you are on city water or well water main feed can be left on.I have yet to work on a system that DID NOT incorporate a water regulating valve. The downstream pressure is set for 15 psi...It insures that a constant supply of feed water is availible if necessary.PDF

PDF,

I am not sure I understand your post. Can you tell me how you insure not cross-contaminating your potable water supply, if you leave the main feed valve open all of the time?

Have you ever drank water after it has circulated through a boiler and radiators for a couple of months?
