I have a problem with a strong musty smell from the heating vents that appears every spring when the outside temperature rises. Last year it was confined to the laundry room but this year it smells up the entire house.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like mold. What type of system? Duct location?

Just your standard forced air system (Rheems Criterion II) furnace is only 3-4 year old, ducts etc are 12 years old. I believe there is a fresh air intake but no "heat exchanger"? There is an attachment humidifier (Generalaire) which I clean regularly.

How do I get rid of the mold if that is the problem?

Still what type of system? Gas, electric, heat pump, package, split? No heat exchanger sounds like heat pump. Where is the duct located? in basement, in crawl, attic?

It is a natural gas furnace. I believe the fresh air duct comes in from under the deck.
