One of the zones won't stop. The the thermostat is 15 years old. I took it off and undid all wires but circulator keeps going. How can I stop just this one zone without stopping everything. there is a device with several wires on pipes - can this be 'cut off'.

It sounds like you have a boiler with zone valves and probably a main pump on your return line. Not sure without seeing it though. If so you probably have a short in the zone valve in that loop. Unhook the low voltage wiring to that zone valve and see if it stops heating that zone.
Or if each one of your zones is running off its own pump you prabably have a transfer switch or a relay that is malfunctioning and should probably call a heating co.

You may have a stuck end switch on the valve,a bad valve, a stuck relay for the pump or just some low voltage wiring that went bad over the years. Have a pro look at it.
