I live near Seattle, and we just had a 6.8 earthquake today. My house is four years old two-story, stud built, with a poured concrete foundation -- a crawlspace not a basement.
I went down below to look for damage, and saw 5 vertical cracks in different places. None were more than a hair thick (it didn't look like I could even insert a knife blade). At least 3 of them are visible on the outside as well, indicating they were all the way through, but I didn't see any light through them.
I am not sure if these are a normal result of settling, or whether they were caused by the earthquake. I don't remember seeing them before, but I am not positive they are new either.
Should I be concerned? What are the consequences of patching vs. not patching these cracks? If I need to call someone, who can I call to get a honest evaluation?
