I'll be doing a piece of work which is going to be placed in the courtyard. I would like to know what type of wood is usually used for outdoors. i.e:Resistant to heat, rain, humidity and other natural elements.

The woods listed below have been used for years for building out doors where longevity and rot resistance was a factor. They all weather differently, so take your pick.
Cypress, teak and Western Red Cedar.

If properly treated with CCA and inspected to the standards of the American Wood Preservers Bureau (look for the AWPB stamp-- and go with a brand-name such as Weyerhaueser) you should get a 50-year limited warranty on the wood.
Good Luck!
