Hi! My dryer is about 12 years old and I have intermittent gas through the gas valve. One time it will light and another time nothing but more times nothing. Of course the time it doesn't come on is when my wife puts wet clothes in. When I was testing it came on occasionally but not always. But the ignitor comes on always. In my model there are 2 60 Hz coils (2 terminal-Main & 3 terminal-Pilot position). Could it be that I should change the coils ($15)to resolve my dilemma or change the whole valve assebly ($115). If I have to change the valve assembly, I might as well buy a new dryer don't you think? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi:optimistic1

Based on what you posted and the dryers age, I would suggest that you remove the entire gas valve assembly.

Stop in at the local retail appliance parts store. In the store they can test that unit and it's solenoids and determine which part/parts are in need of replacement.

If the solenoids are defective, purchase them and install them yourself. The instructions will be with the parts and are not dificult to read or understand. Solenoids are easy to install.

The defective parts are most likely the solenoids. However, I suggest you have the unit tested first. A control panel switch may also cause this condition as well as the timer or a connection between any of the parts.
