I need to brace a window air conditioner. What is the best way to locate a stud? I have a stud finder which works well through drywall but doesn't do much through siding. Is there another sure way?

Studs should be on 16" centers.
Find a stud on the inside wall at the window, lay a ruler or something on the window sill, and go outside and locate it like that.
Good Luck!

Hey,

I look for nails. Also, measuring 16 on center works, but be aware that this can and does sometimes change under different headers (Like windows for example).

Good Luck!
