Bought a nice storm door from Home Depot, gave the guy in the door dept. the measurement of 83" high for my door opening...he said "these babies are one size fits all". Well, I got it home and "one size fits all" didn't fit.
The instructions gave a limitation of 80", glad nothing got cut or anything, so I took it back. (and honestly, after looking at the assembly involved, I shouldn't be attempting it anyway!) Question is...will I need to have a custom storm door made? Does anyone make them in 83", or is that uncommon?

What are you measuring to come up with the 83"? A standard door is 80" tall. Not the frame; not the opening -- the door itself! 80" tall! If your door is any other than that, you will probably need to have a storm door custom made. If that is the case, let the person building the door for you come out and take his own measurements. That way, if there is a problem, it's his problem, not your's!!

Thank you for your help lefty. You are correct, I was measuring the opening where the frame would be, it's an old house and has some fancy molding that interferes with where the frame would normally go, thus the extra two inches. The door itself is not 83", but sadly it is 81", so I suppose it is a custom job after all. Now I know why it never had the storm door there before. I appreciate the information, thank you again.
