I have a wood burning fireplace and it has a metal fire box insert that is in bad shape. The chimney flue broke and I'd like to replace the whole box or use firebrick on both sides and back. The floor is already white firebrick. Do I have to remove the old metal box or can I place firebrick against the old metal box. I also am thinking of inserting a set of gas burning logs. Opinions please,Thanks Vince.

Hello
Most fire places can be repaired but not by us home owners
we need a good fire place contractor to come in and do it, to many things can not work out and could burn the house down..not a good plan. with what you tell us you have one type and would like to change to a differan type of box Please do not do this your self....Good Luck
