go to wayside gardens. they will send you a free catalogue. look for "amethyst falls" wisteria. wisteria sinensis is chinese, wisteria floribunda is japenese, and (as leu said) wisteria frutescens is the american type. the floribunda -japenese type is what i unwittingly bought at lowe's. the "amethyst falls" wisteria is $19.95 a plant @ wayside gardens. they list it as growing to 30 ft. and specifically mention the south. thanks!
