I had an already finished table..i have no idea what was on top of it, but i painted on it with acrylic paint and now it chips really easy, what would be best to use to seal the paint on the table so that the paint won't be chipped as easily and so that the colors will be preserved?

I read on Martha Stewarts site to use shellac.
