my kenmore 90 gas dryer drum will not spin unless i help by rotating the drum by hand to initate the spin. the drum will then turn for about 10 minutes and then turns itself off. attempting to just push the start button only results in a buzzing noise. it appears that the motor is bad, however is there anything else i should check before buying a new motor? thanks talipp...

Hi:talipp

Yes. Check the slider/glider pads which support the front of the drum. Check the rollers which support the rear of the drum. Some machines have a rear bearing. That should also be checked, if your machine has one.

Most likely it's the motor that is overheating which may account for it running for 10 minutes before shuting down. Could also be the drag caused by the parts mentioned above.

I suggest you visit the appliance parts retail store prior to taking the dryer apart. Some parts may need to be ordered or might be on back ordered. Have the make, model and serial number in hard prior to going.

Check the dryer archives, in this forum, for further repair instructions , etc.
