On a decorating show i saw them do a wall with paint and mas
masking tape to make it look like square stones or tile,
but I can't remember how to do it. Can anyone help me?

Sorry, I looked through most of my tapes (one broke, I am sure that was the one I needed) but couldn't find it. If you haven't already done so there are books available that tell you how to do different techniques.

They did this technique on a show called Room by Room (HGTV) last night. The episode was call "A Simply Great Family Room - RXR-1212.

First you have to apply a base coat in a colour that resembles cement. Then measure your lines using a string chalk line. Then apply a low tack masking tape over the lines.
Then You need three or four colours that resemble the type of stone you are trying to achieve.
work one of the colours into a thick roller and roll this out onto a large piece of card board untill the roller is nearly dry. Now your ready to dry roll the walls with this colour lightly which produces a mottled effect.
repeat with a fresh roller with the second colour and so on.
When you have completed the steps above with all colours you will notice that the colors will blend together producing a stone effect. You can now pull off the masking tape carefully.
Finally,dry roll ONCE more to gently blend in the harsh lines that were underneath the masking tape.
I hope this assists you in creating a stone wall that lasts for years to come!!.......cheers.
