How do I paint a Harliquin Design on a wall?

What do you mean by harliquin? Do you want to paint an Italian clown?

I took the liberty to look up "harlequin" in the online websters dictionary at http://www.m-w.com/
1 a capitalized : a character in comedy and pantomime with a shaved head, masked face, variegated tights, and wooden sword b : BUFFOON
2 a : a variegated pattern (as of a textile) b : a combination of patches on a solid ground of contrasting color (as in the coats of some dogs)
Maybe it helps, if fourtheos gives a better description of what the exact look is wanted, I am sure gini can help. I for one never got into faux finishes, but here are some links.....

A Harliquin Design is a Diamond pattern. I just need help on how I would go about measuring it out on a wall. How do I make the diamonds all the same size? How would you tape it off to paint? Thanks for the links I will try there too.

Try this: On cardboard draw a line the length you want the diamond to be. Now measure 1/3rd the way down and mark it. Add 1/4 the length to that measurement. Divide that amount in half. Draw a line from that point 1/2 on one side and 1/2 on the other (keep it level). Now, draw a line from the top to each side. Finally, draw a line down from these same points to the bottom. You should have your diamond. Now use this as your template. Draw a line in pencil (very lightly) on the wall were you want the bottom of the design to be, all around the room if need be. Now measure up to the height of the diamond and draw a line again at that point the same way. Now you have your guide. Check to see how many diamonds you can fit on that wall before you start. You may not be able to fit them perfectly, now is the time to decide (if need be) where half of a diamond should be placed. Once you know what your placement will be use the template starting at a corner drawing lightly around the template. Continue in this manner along the wall. Using painters tape, tape around this shape. I find painters tape easier to use than a stencil unless you are making small diamonds, if this is the case than make a series of diamonds next to each other. Create the diamonds in the same manner as describe above. Do the same guide lines. You can use cardboard or a stencil sheet to create your stencil. The stencil sheet will hold up best. I hope this isn't confusing, if you don't understand any part of this let me know and I will try to clarify. Its sometimes hard to discribe something you can see so clearly in your mind.

This is something I saw in a magazine doing a harlequin design on a table. They used regular sponges cut in a diamond shapes and then used as a stamp to apply your design.
