Just noticed that our 18' tall brick chimney has shifted horizontally about 1/4" away from the house. The shift occured about 7' above ground level where it necks down. The chimney pokes through an eave on the the back side of the house. I believe this may have happened during a 4.5 magnatude jolt we got about a month ago (wonderful Los Angeles area with it's well known seismic events).
I don't know if there is any (vertical) reinforcement in this sucker.
Any ideas on what to do? We don't use the fireplace for anything, but obviously another shaker may bring this down.
