We recently had our bathroom redone. New floor, new tub surround, new toliet work. I decided to repaint it and it turned out great except for in the shower part. The tub surround only goes 3/4 way up to the ceiling. So I painted the remaining space.

The problem started when the caulking on the tub surround (shody work that I paid for) started to come loose. The contactor came back and tore out the old caulking and then left town. So I re-caulked the surround myself (wasn't too hard) and then I noticed a small hole in my painting from the contractor pulling loose the wrecked caulking.

Now that I am ready to fix the paint hole, I am noticing that there are cracks in the paint all around the shower part. From the surround up to the ceiling. Actually the cracks are just above the surround. My question is, is there some type of sealant to keep the paint (water based) on the walls and not flaking off, without having to repaint the whole room with a different type of paint? I used one that said it was for kitchens and bathrooms and was mildew resistant. I am just looking for a way to seal the paint into the walls. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

When you say water based...I can only asume you mean emulsion...Right?? Well,Emulsion is like a sponge and is pourous.Water and condensation just love "emulsion"
Ideally you should prepare the walls again and USE the Kitchen & bathroom paint. DO NOT USE CAULK for the surrounds!! Only mastic will do.
If this is to much hassle, then seal the walls with a water based varnish that comes in different finishes such as matt, satin and gloss.....and then using MASTIC seal around the shower surround.
Finally if you need a top decorator to do it for you....Go to....

Just curious to find out if you resolved this. I am having
the same problem. The paint above the tub keeps getting
hairline cracks in it. I resanded, primed, and painted. However, the little cracks keep coming back a few weeks later.
