View Full Version : Maytag dryer belt replacement

The belt in our SG1000 stacked dryer has broken. I seen to remember replacing it the last time, but I can't find the info. Can anyone point me to info for same?
Also, the washer is squealing when it first starts up. Like the sounds of a belt squeal in a car. While I'm at it.......?

Thanks,
Fritz

Hi:dennisjazz

If memory serves me, you'll need to access both belts from the back of the appliance. I guess you could check the condition of the washers belt and if not worn out, apply some automotive belt ease spray.

However, I heard that spray stuff works but only for a limited time. Since your dryers belt is already broken, best bet is to replace them both.

Pull the appliance forward to access the rear. Be sure to unplug the units first and turn off the gas if need be.

Hi all....

The belt is replaced from the front. Remove power and turn off the gas. Remove the angled front panal below the control ( 2 screws ). Remove the chrome trim from around the control ( 2 screws ). I usually remove the electronic control ( 3 screws ) and pull off the wire connectors. Remove 2 screws from on top of the front panal the top part of the panal will tilt forward so you can disconnect the wires from the door switch and spark gap. Lift off the front panal. See 4 screws holding on the front bulk head, remove them the front bulk head will come off. The belt goes on from the front and can now be slipped around the drum. Check the fan blower while you are there ( see left front bottom ) as this often breaks/wears as well. Putting the belt around the idler pulley on these is one of the worst jobs I have to do...or it could be, that my arms are just too short!! :(

Hope this helps,
jeff.
