We just purchased a home that has NEW thick texture on the walls and ceiling of one bedroom. It looks like it is joint compound just globbed on the walls. Is this something we can remove on our own or do we need to put up new drywall. I would like a semi-smooth or smooth finish. Thanks.

Search for "skim coat" or "coating". Knock down roughness, skim coat.
