About a year (or so) ago, I blew in some insulation into walls that I could easily get to. My second floor is completley gutted (in a 110 year old home) and I had access to a lot of the first floor walls from above. Now I would like to have the other walls that I could not get to, done by a professional. My problem is, I don't know who to believe. I used recycled news paper when I did it. I only found one local guy that was willing to use newspaper, and he's just retired. Others that I have spoken to use other, more expensive forms of blown-in insulation. They claim that news paper settles over time and can actually attract moisture and is very unsafe from a fire retardent standpoint. I thought that these were no longer issues with newspaper because of how they now treat it. Are these guys blowing smoke up "you-know-where" just to sell me the more expensive stuff? Or is there something to what they're telling me, have I wasted money on what I've allready done? What are some other forms of blown-in insulation with their pro's and con's?
