Our seventeen-year-old house is located near the beltway. Over the years, traffic has started earlier and remains heavier. Would replacing our windows and storm windows alleviate the noise and if so, with what? Is there some other remedy for this growing problem? Thank you.

Replacing your existing windows and storm windows with new vinyl or clad framed windows will help with the noise. Those windows, with laminated glass, will help more with the noise. Those windows, with low-E glass will also lower your utility bills, which will in turn, pay for the windows.

AND, to add to what lefty said, to help dampen the noise, you also can hang heavy, insulated drapes over the windows toward the traffic noise.
