I am looking to replace single pane windows. My issue is which is best? Replace the entire window or go the replacement route and leave the original frame ?
We have had two estimates for replacement windows and given the price that I could purchase Pella or Andersen windows and do it my self, the replacement path seems absurdly pricey.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what brands of retrofit windows you had quoted, or who quoted them, but I would try a few other quotes before I made up my mind. Compare the warranties offered, both on the frames and on the seal of the glass (the IG units). If you decide to go the route of replacing them yourself, just remember who will be there to fix any leaks that may occur.
