I have a one story 50 y old house. I plan to add blown in insulation to the existing 4 inches of loose fill that is already there. There is no vapor barrier installed under the existing insulation now. I am wondering if I need to remove the existing insulation and put down a plastic sheet vapor barrier or just leave it as is and add the new insulation.

I wouldn't go to all of the trouble to add the vapor barrier at this point. You would be working in too many tight and confined spaces to get it installed without any leaks. Just install baffles at each soffit vent so the new insulation doesn't block them off and you will be fine.
