After gutting our second floor 5'X 8' bathroom, my wife and I are installing a 60"X 32" Jacuzzi whirlpool tub in the niche previously occupied by a cast iron tub. The tub we like most is the Jacuzzi LUSSO. This tub however does not have a tiling flange and since the tub will also have a shower, prevention of water going behind the tub is critical to the installation. The tub will not be on a platform but will be set within the three existing sides of the alcove. Can we use this tub or must we get one with a flange manufactured with the tub(the CETRA by Jacuzzi has such a flange but we like the LUSSO better). I understand there is a flange kit sold by Jacuzzi as well as a rubber tiling bead sold at Home Depot. Will either of these do the job? If so, which would be best?
Another question: The floor is not level. Our plan is to take up the old plywood, install and level Wonderboard then use mortar in the installation. Should Wonderboard be used in this way? What kind of mortar do we use?
Any help you can give us in doing this installation would be greatly appreciated. This is our first bathroom attempt.
Thanks for any and all help. If you think of things I might really need to know please include this in your answer!
