I have an old wood table with a black linoleum top and I need help. The top has stuff embedded in it and I don't know how to go about cleaning and sealing it. I want to use it in my kitchen. I need someone to help me I am at a complete loss.

For cleaning, if ordinary soap and water won't do the trick, here are my suggestions, in order of strength:

Murphy's Oil Soap

Windex, or other glass cleaner

Diluted ammonia

Greased Lightning (from your grocery store)

I wouldn't suggest (as I often do with furniture) cleaning with any petroleum based prouct such as paint thinner or naphtha. They may have a tendency to dissolve the linoleum.

Thank you for the advise on cleaning, I was about to try the
naphtha, I'm so glad I waited!! Now that I know how to clean it, how do I seal it for use in a kitchen?

Don't really know how any of the standard clear finishes would adhere to the surface, or if they would at all. There's another post further down on painting linoleum you may want to check out.
