Hello! My sister has an older Kenmore Continuous Cleaning gas oven, model # 103.7287810, serial # 8D15002. The main problem seems to be the "doneness" of the food when it comes out. A cake, for example, will have a top that is golden brown and appears to be done, but the middle and bottom will be partially raw and chewy. Other times, foods seem to burn a bit on the bottom, and not be done on the other sides. I have a good oven thermometer, and the temperatures seem to be right on no matter where you set the thermostat. The oven has a glow bar ignition system that glows a bright yellow and starts the oven burner within seconds. The burner itself isn't clogged in any way, and has a strong blue flame. The unit has a mechanical temperature sensor unit, the "thin rod" in the back top portion of the oven. The oven does have timed and non timed bake settings on it. The stovetop burners all work well. I'm certainly no expert by any means, but I've worked on gas ovens in the past and have replaced components like safety valves and ignition units. I can't see any evident problems with any of the components. If you've got any ideas as to what may be causing the problem, I'd appreciate it very much! Thank you for your time.

Hi:Joe2920
The most likely cause for the problem you discribed is using FOIL in the oven, on the racks or under the baking dish. Anything other then the baking pan the cake, etc. is in should either not be in the oven or removed.
The condition you discribed is uneven heat distribution within the oven cooking chamber. There cannot be anything in the oven except the item to be baked.
Another cause could be too many items in the oven at one time. This condition will also cause the rising heat to be distributed unevenly.
Be sure the temperature sensor is in both support clips and not touching anything else.
Yet another condition could be a thermostat that is slightly out of calibration. In that case, you'll need to contact either your local gas utility or an appliance service company and request a calibration.
