I have a small house (860 square feet) with electric baseboard heating. As you can imagine, I am looking for a more energy efficient alternative. Natural Gas is not available, and I would like to avoid propane due to the small size of the lot. I live in Seattle, where the climate is fairly temperate. Does anyone have any suggestions?

MY FIRST IDEA WOULD BE A HEAT PUMP.YES THEY WILL HAVE TO INSTALL DUCT WORK.WITH YOUR CLIMATE A HP WILL WORK WELL.IT WILL CONSUME LESS POWER THAN BASEBOARD,BUT THE ORIGINAL INSTALL WILL COST.ONE BENEFIT,YOU WILL HAVE A/C....CHECK WITH YOUR UTILITIES FOR THE COST OF PROPANE VS ELECTRIC.PDF...P.S. FORGOT TO MENTION,THEY ALSO SELL HEAT PUMPS THAT LOOK LIKE WINDOW UNITS.JUST CUT THE RIGHT SIZE HOLE AND INSTALL.YOU HAVE 220 VOLTS AVAILABLE FOR BASE BOARD SO YOU COULD GO WITH 220 VOLT UNITS.PDF

If you don't want to use propane, your stuck with electic, whether it's baseboard or heat pump. And the way things are out there on the west coast, good luck.
