We have bought a plastic insert to go around the walls and on the ceiling above our bathtub, the manufacturer says we can put it right on top of tiles as long as we rough up the tiles. We have tried coarse sandpaper and a stone on a drill, these scratch the tiles a little bit. My questions are,
How rough do the tiles need to be?

What is the best thing to use to rough it up?
