I have a new 1 1/2 story home w/ 2 bedrooms on the 2nd floor. Each b'room has dormers facing west. With the design of the house I have voids/attic space on the east and west side of the house. We were late summer before completion but I could tell that I will have problem cooling the upstair bedrooms this summer. The interior walls are 2x4 w/ bat insultion. I don't believe that this is enough protection from the intense heat in Southern LA. What options would you suggest for additional insulation. I am considering foam board over the bats. I look forward to your reply.....Jeff Johnson

The energy efficient code shows R-13 for your area. Which it probably is. Insulation alone will not keep a room cool.
You could put on the foam sheets, but not sure they will do much good.
