I've seen several concrete floors that have been refinished with (I think) a varnish or furniture stain rubbed in first, and then painted. I'm not sure of the exact method or materials used, but the look is distressed, and looks wonderful. Please help if you've heard of this, as I've already pulled up the carpet, and am ready to work. Thanks!

There are paints made just for concreate. You do not have to varnish first the paint goes on first than you seal it. Michaels Crafts has this type of paint. I believe its called Patio paint. Most crafts have booklets near by the product used for the project. Why don't you see if your local craft store has some idea books for you, you might find the look you are talking about.
