I was inspecting the plumbing access panel for my shower, I is a custom tiled in shower that was built in my house before I bought it. At the bottom of the access thier was water standing in a little crevace on my side the material looked like some kind of soft meatl maybe lead. On the other side metal mesh with grout. What is this and do I need to fix it?

HI CARL;

It sounds like you are looking at the lead liner they used under the mud bed and tile on the floor . The liner should stick up a few inches onto the studs. If the water is on the back side of the lead liner you probably have a caulking and grout problem. Check the grout joints and all the corners for cracks. Then check out my site, I will post the address below.
Hope it helps
