I have just moved into a home that was built in 1978 and has forced air heating. When the blower is running, there is non-stop tapping and banging in the heat ducts. At night it is so loud that it is almost impossible to sleep ! The most noticeable areas are at the end of the house that is opposite the furnace. Is this a problem with the ducts, or am I looking in the wrong place ?? Help !

Howdy, A bit of inquiry first. Does this tappng occur whenever the blower is functioning? or only when heat is on? A loose damper may cause a noise whenever there is airflow, but if it is associated only with the heating mode, then good chance it is expanding metal ductwork you are hearing, This should sbside after the heater has been running awhile. Put it through its paces & follow your ear.
