Hi!

I have a steam heating system. I have never owned a house before, so kind of going through my bootcamp right now.

I have steam heating system and my issue is knocking noises that apear when heat is on.

I realized that the volve on top of radiators might not be intended for a gradual change and can be just on/off switch.
I also reasized that there are a bunch of other things that I need to know how to ajust:
there is another volve at the bottom of rediators. Some radiators hav an additional vent volve attached.

I bedically have two questions:
1. I turned all "top" volves into complete on of off positions. Noise definitely changed and got better. But it did not disappear completely. I'd appeciate some troubleshooting tips.

2. Do you know of a website with decent a description of basic principle for such a system? I searched for "steam heater" and "steam radiator" but it turned absolutely nothing.

Thank you very much,
Alexey

I'm no expert but I found alot of good info at boilerroom.com, hydronic.net I've heard of heatinghelp.com but have not looked at it yet. The first two are good sites and have forums for getting questions answered. This site is wonderful also. You'll get lots of responses soon. Good luck.
