Patching and Plastering - Drywall repair

We removed the old wallpaper from our bathroom walls. Unfortunatley, the old paper pulled some of the sheetrock facing papers with it, also leaving many "loose" flaps of under paper (brown) and facing paper. We tried to remove these flaps but they just keep running creating more loose ends. We also tried "torching" them to burn them off. Finally we tried "texturing" the wall with aerosol cans of texture. When we put sealer over the light texturing, the wallboard became "pocked" with air bubbles and more loose ends. The sealer was water-based, but we suspect the same would have happened with oil-based. What can we try next. We want to paint the walls, but have thought of repapering them first to cover up and seal the old wall board. Would this work? Or do you have another suggestion. Thanks, G Ensign

First your going to need to remove all the texture, then what you'll want to get is a primer, roll the primer on the walls to seal in the paper from the sheetrock, after it has dried over night, then light sand, then go ahead and texture, Good Luck
