View Full Version : Refinish or Install a new tub?

My husband and I just tiled master bath. Now realize old tub looks horrible with tile. We think it is some fiberglass product - definitely not cast iron. This tub is on second floor with narrow turns.

My friend just got a refinishing price of $450 from a professional. I saw a product on diy.com for refinishing tubs.

Or should we just try to get a new tub?

Last question, should we rip out wall tiles, and old tub (if get new one) and put wonderboard up first?

If refinish, do I put up the wonderboard up first too?

We plan to retile walls.

Thanks,

Hello
If you are planing to re-tile the walls remove every thing to the studs under tile and to where you are going to install new tile..Remove the old tub, This is the time to update the tub and tub/shower valves and install the tub you want as long as it will fit where the old tub came out...No matter how good the re-finish is on the old tub it will not make you happy when the job is all done... Now install new wonderboard on the walls as need for your new tile follow all manufactures directions .........Good Luck
