View Full Version : replicate a red lacquer finish

Hi - I have an old cabinet that I am stripping, and would like to finish in a chinese red lacquer finish. Can anyone suggest some good sources on how to replicate this finish? I know it won't be a *real* red lacquer finish, as those take years to create and hundreds of layers and more skill than I have.

I've found a couple of basic sources, but neither talk about how to create the black graining that you often find in the red lacquer finishes on antiques.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've searched and searched and searched! Thanks!
