This is our first home and we are in the process of replacing our entire kitchen. It seems as if the kitchen is probably original (50 yrs old), and they have placed 3 layers of vinyl flooring over each other. One layer of vinyl and then 2 layers of tiles. We would like to install hardwood floors. Do we have to remove the vinyl to install the hardwood? If so, what is the best way to remove the old vinyl. Thanks.

Shill:
It sounds like you have a real sandwiched floor, which isn't uncommon considering the age of the home. I'd have to recommend in forgetting about removing all that stuff, and go with an engineered floating hardwood floor if you really desire hardwood in the kitchen.
