We currently purchased our first home and want to do some improvements starting with the ceramic tile. It is currently laid over a concrete subfloor, we are thinking of replacing the tile with a wood flooring substance. How is this done and what all is involved in taking out the existing tile? The bathrooms are done is ceramic tile also, but need replacing as they are cracked. Can we lay linoleum instead? Also, since the shower and tub surrounds are tiled as well, they is alot of caulking and paint on them, how is this removed without damaging the tile? Anything you can tell us would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!

Hi,
The caulking has to be removed with razor blades, utility knives, etc. It's the only way.
As far as installing soft flooring over the tile, I think you should head over to the flooring section of this site. The last time I said something about putting linoleum over tile, it turned out to be wrong, and one of the flooring guys chewed me out.
