We want to install ceramic tile in the kitchen over 1 inch thick tongue & groove floor. Do we need to install plywood subfloor and cementboard? If so, how thick?

Dave Gobis, whe heads up the tile school for the Tile Council of America, says that he's had success installing backer boards right over floor boards. A lot depends on how stiff the floor is to begin with.
