Thanks in advance for any replies.

I have purchased a new home with a slab foundation. As a project (and an excuse to buy some new tools), I have decided to place hardwood floors in the family, living, and dining rooms downstairs. I have selected the Concord Oak 3" plank in the "Golden Harvest" finish from the Mannington "Gold" series. It is a 5-ply, 9/16" engineered board.

1. Any comments about the choice of wood? Mannington seems to be well-thought of (CR, ifloor.com, etc.), but I'd appreciate any opinions. The order has not been finalized yet. I know some of the other brands (Bruce's Coastal Woodlands, for example) have lines with a thicker top wear layer (better for refinishing), but are only 3-ply (not as stable). Cost is an issue (I didn't win the lottery) and I need to keep it less than $6 per foot.

2. Float or glue? I'd rather glue, but I read in this months "This Old House" that 9/16" engineered can be floated. Mannington recommends the glue-down on this line, I believe.

3. The living room will have a 200 gallon fish tank (assuming the purchase is "approved"; I know, meow--whpishhh, ha-ha-ha :P ). It is 8x2x2 feet and will sit on a hollow pine stand with a 6" foot on the rectangular base. I planned to felt-coat the bottom of the base. I considered maybe enclosing and sealing the inside of the stand against leaks since the dual undertank filter system will fit there. Any comments from other fishkeepers with hardwood floors? I'm not sure how much the whole thing with gravel, rocks, and water will weigh, to be honest.

Thanks again in advance for any help.

Mannington Gold Series is my favorite prefinished engineered hardwood. Nice choice.
