I have an "early sixties blue" bathroom, complete with tub, toilet and sink in blue. I want to tile the countertop that is covered in laminate. I have been told that I can just tile over the laminate. My question: how do I tile around the sink. It is now flush with the laminate and has a little silver ring around it that covers where the laminate abuts the sink. Do I tile over the ring? DO I lift the sink out and tile up to the sink edge and then put the ring back? I don't know what to do.

Hi,
You can tile over the laminate, but a better idea would be to put 1/4 in. backer board over the laminate.
In either case you must remove the sink, cut your tiles very close to the sink hole (you only have 1/4 in. play on the "hootie ring.") The ring will go back on top of the tiles. You may need to buy new "lugs" to hold the sind and ring in.
